Crystal River
The area of Crystal River, which calls
itself “Florida’s Nature Coast”, because
of its grassy shores on the Gulf of Mexico,
is famous for its fishing grounds during the
summer. In middle of the beautiful vegeta-
tion you will find some awesome Beaches,
like Fort Island Gulf Beach, what is the
only Salt Water Beach in the entire area.
Then there is Roger’s Park, Alfred Kethen
Pine Island Park with a real observation
tower, where you can watch far out to the
Gulf of Mexico. Jenkins Creek Park is fea-
turing natural freshwater springs and has
many waterways coming down to the
shores, where you can find a boat launch
and a fishing pier. Last not least with all
the variety of activities in this beautiful
area, in the surrounding waters you can
find lots of manatees. Crystal River gets called the “Home of the Manatees”.
Usually they live at the edges of the shores, but when the temperature of the
Atlantic Ocean goes a bit down, they swim into the Crystal River, because of
the higher temperature of the fresh spring water, which seems more enjoyable
and comfortable to them.
With lots of water (salty or not), shores,
beaches and a beautiful Country side,
where other activities can be under-
taken, like biking and animal watching.
But for that best stay nearby the
Withlacoochee State Trail.
